A Review of Dumb and Dumber
Sometimes a title tells you everything you need to know. In the case of the Farrelly brothers’ 1994 comedy Dumb and Dumber the only question about the two main characters left unanswered by the title is which one is which. Two characters have never been dreamed of who more aptly fit their billing than Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, and to watch them play out their roles is to experience stupidity at its most entertaining.
Dumb and Dumber put the writer/director team of brothers Peter and Bobby Farrelly on the comedy map. It was their first film out of the gate, and its unexpected success allowed them to follow with such comedic gems as There’s Something About Mary, Kingpin, and Fever Pitch. The Farrelly brothers’ whole catalog has by now obtained a cult following of loyal fans capable of rattling off one-liners and recreating scenes from various films with the ease that comes with long practice, but Dumb and Dumber was the first, and arguably the best.
